What exactly is 'a legal separation'?

Why a legal separation and not a divorce?

1. Legal separation = you're still legally married to each other and can't legally marry another person.
2. .You both go to a solicitor and apply for a 'Separation Order’ which is sanctioned by the Courts. It then becomes a legal separation governed by law as to what either of you can do or not do with your joint possessions etc. But not a divorce! Look up Separation Orders on Google for more info.
